Sac River Spawning

The Salmon Spawning Season has come to a close on the mighty Sacramento River but that doesn’t stop the fly fisherman from searching for that “Record Trout”.

We have a rather unusual, unwritten and unspoken agreement with all the Anglers in our area, we stay out of their way and they won’t hook us. We all smile as we think to ourselves, what a boring sport just standing in the water all day. While at the same time they smile back and think, what a stupid group of kayakers paddling against the current all day.

Conga Line

With the exception of a lone, late Salmon, we are the only thing that climbs the river. I discovered years ago that I hate river shuttles, so we just started paddling up until we were tired and then turned around. Today we have re-claimed every single Class I & II river in our area and figured out all the lines. I love it when a good sea kayaker comes to visit us and finds out we have some of the best “Tidal Races” right here in Redding, 3 hours from the ocean!

Sundial Bridge

Grab your P&H Sea Kayak and go hit the local river… it’s almost better than the ocean!

Happy paddling,
Captain
